Satan’s Plan Study Guide step 5

Satan wants you to Delay your pursuit of God.  If he can just have you put off pursing God in this moment then he can keep you from experiencing what God has for you, this moment!  It is in his plan to keep you from God’s best in your life.

Warning Against Unbelief

7 So, as the Holy Spirit says:

“Today, if you hear his voice,
8 do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion,
during the time of testing in the wilderness,
9 where your ancestors tested and tried me,
though for forty years they saw what I did.
10 That is why I was angry with that generation;
I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray,
and they have not known my ways.’
11 So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”

12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. 15 As has just been said:

“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion.”

16 Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? 17 And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? 19 So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.

Don’t DELAY.  Pursue God TODAY!

Failure is not something that we enjoy, or want to be a big part of our lives.  However, as we live our life everyone experience’s failure at different points and during different seasons.  One of the biggest things we can do is remember that our Failures do not define who we are, our identity in Christ defines who we are.  God desires to use us mightily and reveal Himself through our response to our failures and struggles in life.  So the next time you feel like a failure turn to God, depend upon Him and see how you can bring glory to Him through your response to that failure. What are you depending on to get through your failures?  Be sure to check out this week’s Student Talking Points/Walking points (personal & Group study guide) Satan’s Plan Study Guide step 4.

This Sunday we looked at Satan’s Plan for Your Life Step 3:  Tempted.  In this session we reminded our students of Step 1: Satan wants you to Doubt God’s Word and His Goodness, as well as, Step 2:  Satan wants you to focus on your problems more than God.  As we look at how Satan wants to keep us from experiencing God’s best for our lives we can see how step 3 can be a very dangerous road for many of us.  Step 3 is where Satan wants to make the wrong things in our life seem so attractive that we want them instead of the right things.  We looked at:

Matthew 4

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness

1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]

5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[c]

7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[d]

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9“All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’[e]

11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

In this passage we are reminded of how Satan was using the 3 steps to cause Jesus to want to doubt God’s Word and Goodness and take control of his own life.  We also noted how Temptation is NOT A SIN.  Temptation is the warning signal to weaknesses in our lives.  What we do with temptation can either be a sin or not.  If we respond in pursuit of God rather than sin that we avoid the trap temptation plays in our lives.

Step 2 of Satan’s Plan is for you to focus on your problems rather than God.  This week we will look at how our problems cause us to feel discouraged and we can worry about our problems rather than focus on the problem Solver – God!  When we focus on our problems it can keep us from pursuing God and growing in our relationship with Him.  Click here for Satan’s Plan Study Guide step 2 for this weeks Home Group and Personal Study.  It is a great way for Parents to know what they son/daughter is learning and ask questions.  Also, we use these as a guide to our HS Home group discussions and for our Echo Groups for MS students.  There is also on the front Scripture to memorize and daily verses for you to have during the week that relate to our message series.  I pray that you will take time to go through this so that you will be able to continue to grow deeper in your walk with God.

Step 1 of Satan’s Plan for your life is for you to Doubt God’s Word and His Goodness.  In Genesis 3 we see the goal of the Crafty serpent was to get Eve to disobey God and eat the fruit that God so clearly said, “No” too!  However, he couldn’t just come directly at her so he worked on her understanding on whether God really wanted what was GOOD for her.  In our student ministry one of our life principles we teach our students is that, “God Knows Best.”  We believe that if we live our life with the understanding that God knows best for our lives we will trust His word and trust He is good.  Satan’s goal for you is to stop trusting God’s Word and His Goodness.  Take some time to have daily exposure to God’s word a dig into our Home Group & Personal Study Guide for this series.  Click Here to access week 1: Doubt.  See you Sunday as we have a guest speaker from our Middle School Retreat, “Jamal Quattlebaum,” look into Step 2 of Satan’s Plan.

As we look at on our First message in our new Series Satan’s Plan for your Life, we see that the first step to following Satan’s plan is to Doubt God’s Word and His Goodness.  If Satan Can get you to doubt His Word and not trust that God’s plans are good, then we fall into a trap and it pushes us away from God.  Click here for our Weekly Group & Personal Study Guide from week 1 of our Series.  This study guide is full of discussion questions, thoughts & ideas about this message, scripture memory and more.  Check it out and stay connected to what God is doing in our TCCYouth!
